New work: Scottish landscapes

Some new work to show you all (at long last!) I have spent the last few weeks working on my portfolio and have come up with lots of new designs. All my new work is inspired by the Scottish landscape and many of these fabrics will be developed for products that will be on sale by mid November. I'm really excited about my new work, I think they will look good in product form (cushions, scarves, tea cozies, toys etc.) Let me know what you think!

New Cushions

I am currently knitting up some union jack cushions (all details in my last blog post). I have finished my first cushion, it will be in the shop by the end of the week :) What do you think of it?

It will be retailing at about €35. It is 40 x 40 cm. Lambswool cover with envelope closing back. It has a feather cushion pad.

New products

I have started creating cushions for the expat shop that I work at part time here in the Hague. I'm making union jack cushions :) Here is a sneak peak of the work in progress:

They will be 40x40 cm lambswool cushion covers, I will post pictures of the finished product next week. These cushions will be exclusive to Kelly's Expat Shopping here in the Hague.

Fabric Samples

I have started experimenting with some new designs and here are a couple of my fabrics. what do you think? I am trying to create experimental work and commercial work. So far I feel my designs have commercial aspects, and can be used to create new products.

I'm working on my portfolio right now and had forgotten how much fun it can be, plus how much work it really is! My fabrics are inspired by Scottish landscapes, and there are more fabrics on the way :)

Work development

Below are some drawings I have been working on to help me develop my Scottish landscapes project. Yarn should arrive next week which means I can get started on fabric samples and experimenting, also some new products will be in my etsy shop by the middle of October and hopefully stocked in shops by Christmas. Let me know what you think of my work so far :)

New Project

So I am finally an MA in design cultures and am no longer a student. It has been a long year with a lot of study but I'm pleased I achieved so much personally and academically over the past 12 months. Unfortunately this has meant my my textiles have taken a back seat. So I have decided that over the next month I shall dedicate myself to creating new products, creating an up to date portfolio and experimenting more with my designs and final outcomes.

This has led me to upholstering furniture with my fabrics. I bought a chair for €3.50 from a second hand shop about a year and a half ago and my boyfriend and I set about stripping it, it has only been completely stripped this week and is now waiting sanding and polishing before I can consider putting fabric on the seat. So here are some before and after photos to give you a taste of this new project!

Scotland inspiration

A selection of photos from my trip to Scotland. It was great to be back in my homeland capturing such beautiful images and colours. New designs based on these images will be available in my etsy shop in the next month :)

Cushion photos

I have a few products that I made months ago that I haven't posted photos of so here they are:

More cushion designs are in the works and I will publish photos of them once they're done :)

I'm Back!!!!!!

So I have finally finished my MA in Design Cultures! So I am ready to get straight back to work on my company. New collection is in the works, I have started drawing and also working on colours so I can pick my yarns. My new collection will be based on Scottish landscapes and wildlife. Products will include cushions, blankets, tea cosies, brooches, toys, and of course a couple of scarves for the winter months :)

Here are some initial drawings:

I will be in Scotland in a couple of weeks to get some more imagery, and will upload photos, drawings and fabric designs once ready. I will be blogging more regularly now that textiles have my full attention!

December 2010 to January 2011 (because I have been a bad blogger...)

It is now well into 2011 and I have been so busy with Christmas, New year, University course work and life in general that I haven't written a new post since November. So I will catch you up on a few things that have happened over the past few months:

At the beginning of December I took part in the Funky Xmas Market in Amsterdam, I stood out in the freezing cold and high winds for 6 hours and only sold Bill the elephant (and I sold him to my friend), so I can safely say it was a waste of time and money. So 2011 brings the year of new stockists, instead of trying to make money through craft fairs I will get my work in to more shops, so watch my blog for updates on new stockists.
My stand at the Funky Christmas market.

Over Christmas I managed to sell some stockings and christmas decorations, I make only a few of them so next Christmas I will make more as they sell well :)

At the Beginning of January I added a new critter to the crew, Victor het Varken (victor the pig). I really enjoy making critters, so this year I will be adding even more animals, any suggestions or requests would be great as I can never think of new animals to make!

So that is what I have been up to, and writing 4 4000 word essays for my masters course. The next few months will be I will be super busy with my masters so new products and blog posts may be absent for a while, but come April I will be back onto working on my business at least 1 day per week so new things will be happening then, I will keep you updated with other goings on between now and then :)

Coming soon:
My new revamped website should be up in the new month or so.
New products: critters and some new more varied products (so no more scarves, they drive me batty!)

Hopefully I will be blogging more regularly now, and look forward to any suggestions for new critters :)
